Pocket rockets

This is one of our favourite home experiments, it is so simple and it never gets old! These were in one of our earliest Curiosity Boxes but are easy to source at home. You will need:

Plastic containers with a tight fitting lid – NOT GLASS

Effervescent tabs – this video shows Alka Seltzer but it also works well with Vitamin C tabs

Tap water

something to clean up the mess!

The best formula is 1/4 fizzy tablet in about 1cm of water.

What makes the best launch?  Turn this activity into a proper experiment by thinking of 3-4 different tests – More water? More tablet? Tighter fitting lid?, preparing a results chart and measuring the height of each different launch.
