Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common queries we’ve had from our curious community. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just contact us and we’ll get right on it!
When you sign up for a subscription, your first box will be sent within 10 days. We use Royal Mail 48 for UK orders. If you need it urgently, just let us know by emailing our Head of Happiness on help@curiosity-box.com and we’ll do our best to help!
You can pause, change or cancel your subscription at any time by logging into your account and clicking on your subscription. If you are having any issues our Head of Happiness Claire will help – you can email her on help@curiosity-box.com
Our Jumbo Boxes are chocka full of experiments and collectable lab equipment. These boxes are everything you need for a home science club. Each Box contains about 4-6 hours of activity time that can be broken up into smaller time chunks. The dimensions of this box are: 32cm W x 34cm L x 10cm H
Our Nano Boxes are letterbox sized (they are made to fit an average UK letterbox) and contain about 2 hours of activity time. The experiments are still awesome but we haven’t perfected our shrink ray yet so some of the bigger bits of kit are only available in the larger sized boxes, The dimensions of this box are 32cm W x 23cm L x 3cm H
If you’re concerned that you’re missing a box, we’ll be happy to investigate but before we send out our sciency sleuths, it’s worth checking you haven’t missed a card from the Postman saying they tried to deliver it. Please also have a quick look on your account and check that we’ve got your correct delivery address, and that it hasn’t been sent somewhere else.
If none of these apply, and you think your box is lost please contact us on help@curiosity-box.com or ring on 01865 546145, and we’ll help you track it down.
Yes you can. When you subscribe, you can add a delivery address that’s different your billing address. If you decide you want to change the address after signed up, just log in to your account and update your delivery address.
Our boxes have loads of stuff in them! Lots of the activities can be easily shared and done with multiple children together. Where they can’t be shared, they can be repeated, so siblings can take turns!
Not at all! We’ve lost count of the amount of times we’ve had parents say “I’d have loved science if I had’ve had something like this when I was a kid!” Each activity comes with:
- a clear set of instructions
- a simple explanation of what’s going on
- “How To” videos to help you with any sticky bits (sometimes literally!)
All of our activities are with your child’s safety at the top of our list of must-haves. We don’t let anything out of CBHQ without making sure it’s fully compliant with the latest Health and Safety legislation. Some of our boxes contain food (like Bake Off Lab and Healthy Me) so please read the details of the box before you check out.

Our kits are suitable for two age groups:
🟥 Curiosity Jumbo (red box) is suitable for 7-11 years
🟦 Curiosity Nano (blue box) is suitable for 7-11 years
🟨 CuriosiTOTS Jumbo (yellow box) is suitable for 4-6 years
🟪 CuriosiTOTS Nano (blue & purple box) is suitable for 4-6 years
With all our boxes we encourage grown-ups to offer their services as trusty lab assistant, and it’s up to you and your cadet what activities you do together. All we ask, is that you follow our safety instructions.
Yes, BUT they are not intended to feel like school! We want kids to be exploring and thinking, not just learning fascinating facts. So we have linked each activity to the primary curricula for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with a very large dash of flair and creativity!

Science and sustainability go hand-in-hand at the Curiosity Box, and as scientists, we want to make this world a better place, not one littered with junk. So we have a simple but strict policy:
- All our packaging is biodegradable or recyclable, including our “plastic” packaging bags which are made from corn starch.
- Our lab coats are manufactured using responsibly sourced materials by properly employed staff.
- Wherever possible we source our supplies as locally as possible.
- The contents of the box are all sourced with the environment in mind. We use compostable cups and straws, eco cotton buds, eco glitter and reusable containers wherever possible.
- We challenge our Curiosity Community to find creative ways to use their box when they’re done with the activities!
Real science is a collaborative effort and Curiosity Boxes are no different. They are designed to be done under supervision, and ideally together! Obviously each child is different, and you know your child best, so you will be the best judge of how much supervision your child needs.
We include all the specialist equipment and for the most part, all the other bits and bobs you need. But there are a few things that we can’t include because we aren’t allowed to ship them because they’re too large/fragile (like an egg!), or they’re things that you’re bound to have at home, like bowls, spoons, scissors for example.
Our experiments and activities are designed to be proper engineering and science challenges so a bit of trial and error and tinkering is often the best part of the activities! Every brilliant scientist needs a helping hand from time-to-time! Just drop us an email help@curiosity-box.com or call us 01865 546145 and we’ll help you and your Curiositeer get your activity or experiment back on track.
Don’t worry, we’re totally prepared. Let us know by emailing us at help@curiosity-box.com or by calling us on 01865 546145. We’ll log it, and send you a replacement straight away. We also recommend that you dispose of the box safely. We never include anything in our boxes that’s highly hazardous but, we like to play it safe so if your box is leaking, please wear some safety or rubber gloves before handling the contents. All the packaging is either recyclable (instruction cards and box) or compostable (the little bags that we use the package each activity up).
Don’t worry, just drop us an email at: help@curiosity-box.com or call us 01865 546145, and we’ll sort it out.
We are all parents, so we totally get this! We’ve designed the boxes to be modular, with each activity packed in their own little biodegradable pouch. You could set yourself a “science club” time each week and do an activity then, you could make one saturday a month your Science Saturday or you can just dive in when you find a spare moment!

All our STEM Day in a Box kits link to KS2 (England) and P6-7 (Scotland) curriculum.
Staying Afloat, Cool Catapults, Exciting Energy and Super Strength are also mapped onto upper KS1/P4-5
Fully Charged, Electric Artwork and Chromatography work well for transition into KS3/S1-2
Easy! Just select payment by bank transfer at the checkout (don’t worry, we won’t take any money or details at this point). This will trigger our Head of Happiness, Claire, into action! She will send you an email to get the necessary details and will an invoice over to you.
Unfortunately we legally have to add VAT to our invoices (unless you can send us a valid VAT exemption certificate). You should be able to claim the VAT back so this will be a neutral cost in the end.
STEM is simply an acronym and stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. You might also come across STEAM which is just Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths
We make every STEM Day in a Box kit by hand in Oxfordshire, and we ship by courier on an overnight – 48 hours service. With these things in mind we will normally have your Box in your hands within 10 working days.

We ship anywhere in Europe. We can ship to countries outside Europe, but we would need you to contact our Head of Happiness Claire first, as COVID is still disrupting international shipping and we would need to get a price for this on a case by case basis.
