Dr Jo
Teacher and Research Scientist

Hello! I’m Dr Jo, a qualified teacher and research scientist with more than twenty years experience delivering fun and engaging hands-on science workshops in schools.I have worked in scientific academic research, clinical trials and preclinical development in the pharmaceutical industry, teaching at primary, secondary, FE, HE and adult training.I have a BSc (Hons) in Biology and Biochemistry, a PhD in Neuroscience and QTS.
I’ve worked rescuing seals, swimming with sharks, designing environmental enrichment for zoo animals, improving the welfare of pigs and sheep, exploring the neurochemicals in our brains, developing medicines and inspiring the most exciting animals of all: small humans! I design and deliver fun and engaging hands-on workshops to show the wonder of the science that is all around us.
I love being outdoors in the countryside and at the seaside. I’m quite fond of a cup of tea and slice of cake too! I am passionate about science, education and young people. I make science exciting and accessible to all – to open minds, inspire, engage and develop positive attitudes. Plus, it’s great fun!
