Laura Mitchell
Clinical Psychologist

I am a Clinical Psychologist. I help people with tricky problems which can make them feel worried, scared or sad. I love talking with people to understand more about them and working together to find solutions.
I also get to do research to help learn more about why people think and feel the way they do. My research has recently involved learning more about sleep. Sleep is super important for all sorts of things, including helping us to feel happy. People who find it hard to sleep often feel sad, and people who feel sad often find it hard to sleep! It is important to understand why this is, so we know how to help people with this tricky problem.
When you are bothered by difficulty sleeping for a long time, this is called insomnia. My research involved getting people with insomnia to do some special tasks on the computer. These tasks help us to understand how the human brain can make us see and understand things differently based on how we are feeling.
It is so interesting to learn more about how complicated people are and there is always more to learn!
